Marielys De Jesús González is a proud Latina born and raised in Puerto Rico. She is currently in her fourth year at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus, and is about to finish her bachelor’s degree in Cellular Molecular biology. She acknowledges that mental health is largely a taboo subject within her culture. This motivates her to learn and make future generations aware of the importance of managing her emotions and encouraging each person to become the best version of themselves.
She has been a leader since before she graduated from high school to be an agent of change and to encourage others to take the initiative to positively impact her community. In her case, she organized a collection together with other students to obtain the necessary materials to create a representative mural to promote her school, thus leaving a beautiful legacy.
Marielys has belonged to the board of directors of the UNICEF association of the University of Puerto Rico in which she has contributed to the donation and collection of supplies for orphanages in need. Also, she has been a tutor for children and high school both from her mainland and from Culebra.<
She aspires to study dental medicine and practice as a dentist in her own office. In addition, she wishes to apply the acquired knowledge throughout her life to improve the quality of life of each patient by making them smile.
She joined OMI in August 2022 as secretary to the organization’s board. She is responsible for assisting in scheduling the meetings and activities. Likewise, she contributes to ordering and organizing other noticeable aspects of the organization.
